NOTES
The first piece is an "abridgement of Gysius' "Netherland disturbances" (cf. Sabin 11256, note) first published anonymously in 1616 with title: Oorsprong en voortgang der Nederlandtscher beroerten. Issued by Cloppenburch, to whom the work has been wrongly attributed, as supplementary to his editions of the piece by Bartolomé de las Casas.

Two volumes in one: the two parts should not be separated although each has its own title page and pagination--Palau y Dulcet.

Title printed within engraved historiated border signed DVB [David Vinckeboons] in[cidit], DEL [Dirck Eversen Lons] fe[cit]. Same border and illustrations as in the Dutch edition of 1620.

Publication statement is part of the engraved border on t.p.: same border and publication statement for both titles in this edition.

Illustrations are etchings after De Bry.

Signatures: (:)Ä A-YÄ (E3 missigned E in some copies); A-RÄ (C2 missigned A2).

Leaf 88 (2nd group) misfoliated 87. Leaves 39 and 52 (3rd group) misfoliated 38 and 25.

Mise en lumiere par un Evesque Bartholome de las Casas, de l'Ordre de S. Dominic. Nouvellement refaicte, avec les figurs en cuyvre.

LC Copy 1 has leaves 17-18 (sig. E1-2, 2nd group) misbound after leaf 20. Leaf 27 (3rd group, signed G3) repaired with some loss of paper and text. Has ink stamp: Library of Congress, City of Washington, 1867.
